Clear answers about healthcare credentialing

Frequently asked questions

Credentialing without the vague answers.

Timelines and requirements vary, but the status of the work should still be explained clearly.

How long does provider credentialing take?

Many payer processes take 60–120 days and some take longer. Timing depends on the payer, specialty, network, application completeness and whether contracting, government enrollment or an IPA is also required. No consultant controls payer processing time.

Does “submitted” mean the provider can bill?

No. Submission means the payer received—or was sent—the application. Credentialing approval, contracting, system loading, effective date and billing readiness can be separate stages.

Is a complete CAQH profile the same as payer enrollment?

No. CAQH supplies provider data to authorized organizations. A payer may still require an application, contract, roster, portal request or additional documents.

Can credentialing be backdated?

Some programs and payers permit limited retroactive effective dates; others do not. The answer depends on the payer, product, provider type and submission circumstances. It should be verified before patients are scheduled on that assumption.

Do you work only with behavioral health providers?

No. Experience includes orthopedics, primary care, urgent care, OB/GYN, radiology, hospitalists, GI, pain management, behavioral health and multi-specialty organizations.

Which states do you support?

The Credentialing Collective can support practices nationwide, with a primary focus in Washington, Oregon, California and Idaho. This includes established experience with California payers, IPAs and Medi-Cal/PAVE processes.

What do you need to review a project?

Usually the legal business name, TIN, group NPI, locations, ownership, provider roster, start dates, target payers, current contracts and the specific billing or enrollment concern.

Can you guarantee an approval date?

No reputable credentialing company can guarantee a payer or government-agency approval date. We can reduce preventable delays, follow up, document status and escalate appropriately.

Have a situation that does not fit neatly into a FAQ?

That is often where experienced review matters most.
